Foreign Residency Waivers (J -1)

J-1 exchange visitors, scholars, students and Foreign Medical graduate trainees are generally subject to a two year Foreign Residency before they can apply for permanent residence and H and L Temporary work visas if:

  • Exchange visitors possess skill that have been determined to be in short supply in their home countries, or
  • Exchange visitors training program is funded even in part by an agency of the U.S. government or by the government of the visitors home countries, or
  • Exchange visitors come to the U.S. for Graduate medical education or training
    •

    Waivers:

    We can represent and assist certain qualifying exchange visitors in the complicated process of obtaining waivers.

    Processing Time:

    Five (5) to ten (10) months.
